Types Of Surrogacy

Every surrogacy agency needs surrogate mothers in order to run successful programs. The way an agency goes about finding surrogate mothers can give intended parents a glimpse into that agency's integrity. Not all "surrogate mothers wanted" ads are created equal, and at Intended Parents, Inc., we are happy to tell you what to watch out for.

Legitimate agencies placing "surrogate mothers wanted" ads will specify an age range (usually 21 to 38) and health requirements. At Intended Parents, Inc., we require our surrogate mothers to have had at least one healthy child before working with one of our clients. We do this for the protection of the intended parents as well as the surrogate mother. What we never do is place ads saying "Wanted: tall blond surrogate mothers" or anything of the kind.

What to Look for in 'Surrogate Mothers Wanted' Ads

Reputable agencies advertising for surrogate mothers rarely promise outrageously high fees or discriminate according to physical characteristics. As intended parents ourselves, we know that all we wanted in a surrogate mother was for her to be healthy and willing to help us start a family. Because we used gestational surrogacy (which is also what we offer at Intended Parents, Inc.), the physical gifts of our surrogate mother were not an issue.

In gestational surrogacy, surrogate mothers carry children that are not genetically related to them. They make it possible for intended parents to have children that contain one or both of the intended parents' DNA.
