Reviews of Intended Parents: Miracles Do Happen by Sandra Watson Rapley

Asoul-baring story of the emotional aspects of being an intended parent in a surrogate pregnancy. Fibroids, and the surgery to remove them, left Rapley infertile, with a scarred uterus and fallopian tubes. Things looked grim, writes Rapley in unadorned prose that gives her circumstance a particularly vulnerable quality, until her brother's wife, Victoria, volunteers to be the "oven" for Rapley's fertilized eggs. A valuable frontline story of interest to anyone considering intended parenthood.

Awonderfully compelling insight into the world of Surrogacy with this truly personal account, it's a terrific page-turner. Fantastic read for anyone thinking about embarking on this journey themselves or for anyone with an interest in this complex subject. Highly recommended. When does the sequel come out??

— Sally

I like other readers could not put the book down. I read the entire book in about 3 days. I am remarried and my husband has no children. I am fortunate to have given birth to my daughter (who is now 14) but my husband has no children of his own, so we were trying to have one together. After trying for over a year and several tests, etc., I have a condition in which doctors have advised me not to become pregnant. We have been fortunate to have a surrogate offer to carry the baby for us. I have read this book and was truly touched by Sandra's story. I even emailed her today and told her how much I appreciated her book and received an email back from her the same day. I was totally impressed with the book, her email, and everything. I am letting my surrogate read it now. I hope my journey is a successful one and I hope someday I will be able to tell my children how lucky their father and I was in finding a surrogate and having the information available such as Sandra's book. Thanks again!

You know I ordered the book so that I would be better able to relate to B and C. I wanted to make this as much of a pleasant and relaxing experience for them as I could.  So I decided that to be able to help calm their fears I would have to know their fears.  So naturally when I saw your book I was ecstatic.  As it turned out your book helped to learn things that they would be going through as well as what I needed to expect.  Intended Parents: Miracles Do Happen is a heart-wrenching book that you find yourself lost in.  You have written the book so that your emotion can actually be felt by your readers.  When you said you lost sleep I felt tired for you, when you said “there wasn’t a dry eye” I cried.

It has allowed me to look through the eyes and into the heart of an intended parent and feel the emotions that are associated with surrogacy and infertility.  I felt your fears and anxieties as if I had suddenly taken on your role as the intended parent.  Reading this book I feel has greatly prepared me to become a surrogate mother.

I just want to take the time to thank you for pouring your heart out onto paper.  I know that it has helped people more than you could ever imagine.  I just hope that I can be as good of a surrogate to B and C as Victoria was to you.  Thanks again for all you do!  You are truly a blessing to this world! Sincerely

— Jackie surrogate mother from Ohio

What a story! I am a surrogate mother for a couple in South Carolina and we are set to deliver a baby girl on Thursday, March 30th. This is my first surrogacy journey.

I, too wanted the insight of the life of an IP. I never had trouble conceiving my three boys. I worked in the medical field for an OB/GYN and infertility specialist. It was heart-wrenching each time we had to tell a couple that their IVF cycle did not work or, such as in your case, fibroids in her uterus prevented pregnancy. The couple would feel so very guilty and leave the office in tears.

About two years after giving birth I started exploring the world of surrogacy. I did a lot of research before deciding to pursue my journey.

I did not know the couple before I was matched. We have managed to build a wonderful relationship in the year and a half that we have known each other. I plan on giving a copy of your book to her. It really is a nice story. It has prepared me for the impending birth of this little girl. I am nervous about the situation but stand firmly behind the belief that this is their child, not my own. I can't wait to see the look on their faces when she is delivered. I hope that my story is as gratifying as yours is. Thank you so very much for sharing it with the world.

— Ann, surrogate mother from Maryland

The book is available on CD too! I just received and listened to your CDs. Wow! I was just so into it. I listened to all three back to back. Not only is your story good for other intended mothers going through surrogacy, it is good for us on the other end because I know it made me even more appreciative that I may be able to help someone the way Victoria helped you. If anyone ever wonders why I want to do this for someone, all I have to do is tell them to buy your book or CD. It says it all.

Honest and heart reaching. The trials and tribulations of pregnancy, yet through the eyes of another person. The emotion of this book gives the right perspective for whole experience of impending parenthood. A wonderfully informative and enjoyable read.

Alast. After years of infertility problems my wife and I are going to do surrogacy with Intended Parents, Inc. This is the agency of the author of this book! We got the book after deciding to use her agency. My wife is not as scared as she was before she read the book as Sandra talks about her feelings throughout the whole surrogacy process. I recommend this book to everyone who is involved in or are thinking about surrogacy. We now know what to expect and what we might feel as we start our own surrogacy journey. Thank you Sandra.

— Bill and Jean, Intended Parents to be.

Fascinating read. My husband and I are starting to explore the issue of surrogacy and a friend recommended this book....what a terrific book! Not only has the author captured the clinical and legal aspects of surrogacy, but the emotional aspect as well. A book like this lets other women (like myself) know we are not in this journey alone. I hope others will enjoy this book as much as I have. Bravo Ms. Watson Rapley, well done!

— Leslie

Just what I was looking for! I am going through this now and I found it comforting to find out that I was not alone. The book is very easy to read and a page turner. Excellent.

— Sarah, another mother to be

At last a book has been written about the feelings of an intended mother. I am so happy to have found this book. I could not put this book down once I started reading it. The author describes, with great feeling, how she felt at each stage of her journey. I really like the way she describes how she felt week by week so that it coincides with the development of her babies. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is either going through surrogacy or who is thinking about going through surrogacy.

Compelling. This book is a page turner. I also found it informative. I now know what to expect.

J ust what we were looking for ... at last. We purchased this book and couldn't put it down. Sandra has opened her heart and let everyone know of her feelings while going through her surrogacy arrangement. My wife was in tears as she read it because we have been trying to have children for years and it looks like we might be trying surrogacy next. The book taught us so much about surrogacy and what to expect when we go through.  Thank you Sandra for writing this book.  It's been a great help and very educational. This is a great read for anyone thinking about or going through surrogacy. Thank you again.

— Tony
